Kinship carers are being overlooked in Midlothian, according to the founder of a newly-formed support group in Dalkeith.
Jim Crombie, along with his wife Rita, is a full-time carer for his young granddaughters.
He started up the Dalkeith Midlothian Kinship Care group in October last year.
Recent Care Commission visits to the council’s fostering and adoption services have prompted him to criticise the lack of attention being given to kinship care in the community.
The 65-year-old told the Advertiser: “The social work should highlight more what we do. These inspectors never asked about kinship carers – we do the same work but we are not given the same attention.”
