A PAIR of terrified cats came within a whisker of disaster after spending two days in a bag of donations handed in to a charity shop.

Sisters Whiskers and Paws – now being cared for at Lothian Cat Rescue near Bonnyrigg – were discovered inside a black bin bag left by a middle-aged woman at Capability’s Stockbridge branch on Saturday, March 26.

The following Monday, shop manager Sean O’Brien looked inside the bag – which was believed to have only contained bric-a-brac – and discovered a cat carrier.

Initially, Sean thought that someone had donated the carrier, but was stunned when he looked into the box and saw a pair of eyes looking back at him – and opened the box to find not one, but two cats.

If you think you could provide a loving home for Paws and Whiskers – or any of the other cats at Lothian Cat Rescue – call the shelter on 01875 821025.
