Mayfield youngsters get a day at the races

Five young people from the Mayfield Y2K youth project spent the day with Woodburn teenage driving sensation Aiden Moffat, at the recent British Touring Cars Championship meet at Knockhil in Fife.

As well as meeting the hotly-tipped driver during their access-all-areas VIP trip, the 13-15 year olds spoke to his team and learnt all about just what goes into a race day.

Y2K youth co-ordinator Dheraj Shamoo said: “Just to be on that side of things, in the marquee beside the track, it was quite an exhilarating experience for the young people. They are all Aiden Moffat fans now and would love to go and see him race again. Aiden is an excellent role model, they were really inspired by him. To see someone from Midlothian who has achieved a lot and isn’t much older than them was quite a powerful experience. We were really grateful to the Aiden Moffat team for inviting us.”
