Midlothian asbestos dumping was reported

MIDLOTHIAN Council did contact the Health and Safety Executive about dumped asbestos, despite HSE claims that it was unaware of the incident.

A letter obtained by the Advertiser shows that the council requested the waiving of a 14-day notice to allow the material to be removed as a matter of urgency.

This supports Councillor Cath Johnstone’s assertion that apparent HSE intransigence led to fly-tipped asbestos between Newtongrange and Mayfield lying for 16 days before its removal by a specialist contractor.
