Persimmon Homes East Scotland, a leading regional builder, has awarded a charity £1,000 as part of its Community Champions scheme.

The Circle is the latest group to be awarded Community Champions funding of £1,000 from Persimmon Homes to support a range of summer activities for children and their families.

Circle, based in Midlothian, works right across Scotland at the centre of deprived communities. Children, who are disadvantaged and may have difficult home lives, can take advantage of the holistic support and fun activities that Circle provides.

The activities and support aims to help children and their parents to establish healthy routines, improve school attendance and make sure that vital services are accessed which in turn improves the long term outcome for the children.

Fiona Burness, a family support worker at Circle, said: “I was delighted to hear that Circle would receive a donation of £1,000 through Persimmon Homes Community Champions Scheme. The money will help us fund our school holiday activities for families in East Lothian including a day at Edinburgh Zoo later this month, picnics on the beach and trips to the cinema.

“We have worked hard to raise money ourselves and this boost means that we can provide activities during the holidays for children and their families in a supportive and safe environment.

“The family support that we provide helps identify people’s strengths and builds families capacity to make changes to really improve their lives and long term prospects and make some happy memories at the same time.’’

The Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 towards their efforts. Each month two organisations are chosen to receive funding.

Jim Kirkpatrick, managing director at Persimmon Homes East Scotland, said “We really appreciate the vital family support that Circle provides for disadvantaged children and their parents. It’s our pleasure to provide funding in order for charity’s vital work to continue.

Persimmon Homes East Scotland are currently marketing a range of new homes across Midlothian and East Lothian at sites including Dewar Park, in Gorebridge, Dovecote Wynd in Wallyford and Saxon Fields in Haddington.
