Midlothian centre grows green shoots

Volunteer Centre Midlothian has been awarded £19,930 from Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) to kickstart a gardening project.

Young people, those with mental health difficulties, unemployed people and other groups within the community will benefit from the ‘Midlothian Growing Together’ volunteering opportunity.

John O’Keefe, Operational Officer from SNH, said, “This is a great opportunity for people who might not usually spend much time in the countryside, to enjoy wildlife within Midlothian’s Country Parks while learning how to grow things for themselves.”

The proposed locations are plots of land at Dalkeith Country Park and Vogrie Country Park.

Both, according to Mr O’keefe, will provide a “serene and therapeutic environment for people to learn and enjoy the outdoor experience.”
