The county’s largest employer, Midlothian Council, has agreed on a policy to encourage local young people to gain work experience within its entire network.
Midlothian councillors have hailed the move as a “win-win” situation, as school pupils, young people and unemployed adults will gain first-hand experience of working with the local authority.
The new policy, which was approved by councillors last week, requires every section of the council to offer opportunities for work experience each year.
This development was a proviso of the Single Outcome Agreement.
