Midlothian Council’s development strategy approved in private

Midlothian Council progressed its development and planning policy for the next ten years in private at a recent meeting in Dalkeith.

The draft Midlothian Local Development Proposed Plan was agreed behind closed doors despite a challenge from Councillor Ian Baxter (Green).

Members of the press and public, including objectors, were asked to leave the council chambers last Tuesday after spending almost five hours listening to other council business.

On advice from council lawyers, elected members agreed that the final item on the agenda should be taken in private due to “commercial confidentiality”.
