Midlothian councillor claims: ‘I never voted for demolition’

Questionmarks have been raised over the legitimacy of Midlothian Council’s decision to knock down the former Thornybank Nursery.

At a meeting of full council in May, members discussed identifying a suitable site for the new Midfield Young People’s Centre.

During the debate, council leader Derek Milligan (Lab) said Thornybank should be knocked down and the land made available for council houses.

It is claimed this decision was unanimously agreed – but at the next meeting of full council, at which Thornybank was discussed further – SNP councillor Craig Statham said: “I never voted for the demolition of Thornybank Nursery.”
