Speaking exclusively to the Advertiser, Councillor Peter Boyes has told why he decided to quit the Labour party after 43 years.

Councillor Boyes (67) hit out at the party and defended his decision to vote with the SNP on the replacement Newbattle High School in June, which ultimately led to his resignation last week.

Councillor Boyes , a Labour party member since 1970 and councillor from 1978 attacked Derek Milligan, leader of the Labour group on Midlothian Council, who last week accused him of letting down his local communities by voting with the SNP.
