Reflecting on his first nine weeks in local government, Midlothian Councillor Kenny Young took a break to speak with the Advertiser.
Councillor Young (Lab) was victorious in last November’s Midlothian East ward by-election after Independent Councillor Peter Boyes retired due to ill health.
But he has been involved with the Labour movement since joining his local constituency party in his mid-teens.
He said: “I joined because of Gordon Brown but there was no ‘road to Damascus’ moment where I realised that the Labour Party has all the answers. For me, it was a growing feeling that some people have all the opportunities ahead of them while for others who work just as hard or harder, the doors are closed. It’s not an even playing field.”
