Midlothian’s Lord Lieutenant Patrick Prenter has wished the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge “good luck and best wishes” on the birth of their son.

Of the royal arrival, Mr Prenter, a grandfather of seven, added: “I am absolutely delighted. It is great news for the couple and I hope, and I am sure, everything will go well.”

On facebook, Advertiser followers gave their suggestions for a name for the young prince. Lauren Rao posted ‘Charles the 2nd ( baby Charlie)’. Others included Michael Brown ‘Benjamin’; Craig Pennycuick Snr ‘Alexander’; Jennifer Mcewan ‘Robert’; Tracey Pinkerton ‘Alexander ’; and Gail Hardy ‘Tyler!’.
