Two Midlothian-based gymnasts face a nervous wait to see if they have made it into the Team GB senior team for the upcoming European Championships in Spain.

Ciara Donlevy and Caitlin O’Brien of Lasswade Centre-based City of Edinburgh Trampoline Club, were two of the five gymnasts taking part in the trials last weekend at Lilleshall National Sports Centre in Newport, England.

Their coach Lauren Jeffrey is hopeful that they have done enough to be included in the three-woman team, to be announced on Friday.

She said: “They did really well. They have had various successes over the years at junior level. They are now stepping up to senior level.

“I told them to just enjoy it and treat it as a reward for how far they have come.

“I didn’t have any expectations other than they do their best and they came out second and third in the test event which is just great.

“So fingers crossed. It’s a bit of a nervous time. But they have done all they could do and I’m really proud of how they stood up.

“I couldn’t have asked for them to do more. Hopefully they will make it onto the team for the Euros.

“For me it’s confirmation that our club has grass roots right up to world class in the one place, and that’s always been my goal.”
