MIDLOTHIAN residents have earned praise for saving lives in parts of Africa affected by drought.

Local people contributed £7,283 to the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund’s emergency appeal for 2011 in the Horn and East of Africa.

Responding to the worst drought in 60 years, SCIAF, local partners and sister agencies in Caritas Internationalis provided emergency aid to communities in Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia and Eritrea.
