POLICE are investigating a savage attack on a horse in a Midlothian field.

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a horse was found badly mutilated at Swanston Livery Yard on March 21.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity is working with police after the 23-year-old Icelandic gelding, named Hrafn (pronounced Frap), was discovered bleeding heavily in his field.

He required emergency surgery and is continuing to recover under veterinary supervision.

Senior inspector John Toule, of the Scottish SPCA, said: “The vet advised that Hrafn sustained a clean cut with a sharp metal instrument.”
