Midlothian runner Freya Murray is “gutted” that she has had to pull out of this Sunday’s London Marathon due to injury.
The athlete from Temple also told the Advertiser that she is glad that the event is still going ahead despite the blat at Monday’s Boston marathon.
Speaking of her injury, 29 year-old Murray said: “I have had a little bit of a problem with my hip. It only started last Monday, but I can’t run on it pain free.
“So I have had to make the decision to pull out of this year’s London Marathon.
“I’m really gutted, things had been going really well.”
Despite not taking part, Murray will still be in attendance to support her sister.
She said: “There is so much organisation that goes in to the marathon so it’s the safest it can be. But it could happen anywhere, not just at a marathon.
“My heart goes out to families involved in what happened in Boston.
“But I think it’s quite right that Sunday’s race is going to go ahead. And hopefully people will go out and support the runners.
“I’m still going down to support my sister. This is her second marathon and she is raising money for charity.”
