It was a case of all hands on deck for Midlothian Swimming Club, as they hosted a fundraising gala called the ‘Midlothian minnows meet’ at the Mercat Gait pool in Prestonpans on Saturday.

Swimmers from Kelso, Tranent, Kinross, Peebles, Livingston, Haddington, Bo’ness and Warrender all competed with the points trophy being won by Midlothian with Tranent coming close behind in second place.

Club President Moira Doyle, was “delighted with this win” but took time to “ thank all the parents, officials and timekeepers who volunteered and helped make the meet such a great success.”

In the girls nine years and under events, Midlothian swimmer Chartlotte Thomson was on gold medal winning form, finishing in first place in the 25 metre butterfly, backstroke, breastroke and freestyle events. While in the boys events, Calum Murray won his 25 metre butterfly, backstroke and freestyle events but he had to be content with fourth place in his 25 metre breaststroke swim but was joined by teammate Jack Sewell who finished in fifth place.

Aimee Bell dominated in the girls 10 year and under category winning the 50 metre butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle events. While teammate Isla Stokes finished in third place in 50 metre backstroke, also achieving fourth place in butterfly and fifth place in 50 metre breaststroke event.

In the boys 10 year old 50 metre butterfly Jonah Turnbull achieved sixth place with Rauridh Fraser finishing just behind in seventh place. Jonah also manged to achieve seventh place in the 50 metre breaststroke swim and eighth for his backstroke event, finally finishing tenth with his 50 metre freestyle swim.

It was Midlothian domination in the afternoon with first four places going to Ellie Robertson, Ria Colbridge, Jemma Gerstenberger and Olivia Muirhead in the girls 11-12 50 metre butterfly event.

The girls 50 metre backstroke and freestyle events saw a win for Ellie Robertson with Ria Colbridge and third for Jemma Gerstenberger in both races. Olivia Muirhead and Charlotte Scott managed fifth and sixth places in the 50 metre freestyle.

While it was a show of force in the girls 50 metre breaststroke event with the top eight places going to Midlothian swimmers. Ria Colbridge came out top winning gold with Jemma Gerstenberger, Ellie Robertson, Caledonia Crosland, Charlotte Scott, Emily Durkie, Olivia Muirhead and Cerys Pritchard finishing behind.

Jamie Ferguson was on top form to win all four events in the boys 11-12year old category which also saw Fraser Burgess achieving second place in the 50 metre butterfly, backstroke, and freestyle events managing fifth place with his breaststroke swim. Calum Evans finished in third place in 50 metre breaststroke and 50 metre freestyle, achieving fourth place in the 50 metre butterfly and 50 metre backstroke. The 50 metre butterfly event also saw a fifth and sixth place for Roan Murray and Kyle Muirhead.

Roan Murray’s best swim came with a second in the 50 metre breaststroke and third in 50 metre backstroke. He also achieved joint fifth spot with teammate Kyle Muirhead in the 50 metre freestyle with Freddie Parker having to make do with seventh place.

The girls 11-12 year old relay events saw a gold and silver medal being won in the 4x50 Metre Freestyle Relay by Midlothian A and B teams. The same placings were repeated in the boys 11-12 year old 4x50 metre freestyle relay events with Midlothian A and B teams finishing in top spot.
