Pedalling to raise pounds for pupils in Malawi are two Midlothian educationalists.

Liz Barton, head teacher at Strathesk Primary, Penicuik, and friend Ann Marie Noble, a family support worker with Midlothian Council, will be taking part in the 250-mile cycle at the beginning of July.

The challenge has been organised by the Link Community Development charity, which has supported Strathesk in forging links with Nselema Primary in the Mulanje district of the African country.

Liz (58) said she agreed to support the five day venture as a way of assisting the charity with its valuable work. The duo will spend 10-days in Malawi and hope to visit the school during their stay.
