TRIBUTES have been paid to Labour stalwart Bob McLean, known locally as Mr Midlothian, who died at the weekend.

A leading figure in the campaign for the Scottish Parliament, Dr McLean was found dead at his Lasswade home.

Midlothian MP David Hamilton (Lab) said: “I’ve known Bob for over 30 years, and I was shocked when I heard from one of his relatives that he had passed away.

“Bob was instrumental in pushing the development of the Scottish Parliament. He was well-regarded by the ex-First Minister, Lord McConnell, and was known locally as Mr Midlothian.

“He was the person who co-ordinated and organised the branches, and he was a phenomenal organiser as well as being a genuinely nice person.”

Dr McLean lived in Lasswade and worked for the Edinburgh Museums and Galleries as a historian.
