Public access to three Midlothian police stations will stop under new money-saving proposals.

A review of public counter services – due to be considered by the police board next month – will see the provision come to an end at Gorebridge, Newbattle and Loanhead Police Stations.

In addition, there will be changes to the opening hours at Dalkeith and Bonnyrigg, and an increase in opening hours at Penicuik.

The review also proposes the sale of Danderhall Police Station, which has been vacant for many years.

Outlining the proposals to the Advertiser, Midlothian Superintendent Liz McAinsh said the measures would save £100,000 from the police budget.
