Midlothian politicians clash over referendum

Midlothian MP David Hamilton this week called on local SNP representatives to clarify their position on the independence referendum.

The Labour MP’s move follows the results of a recent poll, which shows that the number of people supporting independence had slumped to three in 10.

Mr Hamilton has issued an open letter to Colin Beattie, MSP for Midlothian North and Musselburgh.

Mr Beattie has responded with questions to Mr Hamilton as the war of words over independence hots up.

Mr Hamilton challenged Mr Beattie to state his view and let local people know what suggestion he made in the Scottish Government’s consultation on the referendum.
