YOUNG Midlothian artists have scooped major prizes in a national art competition.

Seven-year-old Kyle Sneddon, a pupil at Rosewell Primary School, scooped second place in the Family category in the Tesco Bank Art Competition for Schools, run in association with the National Galleries of Scotland.

His portrait, entitled “Gran”, was one of thousands of artworks submitted by schools representing all age ranges and abilities.

Tynewater Primary School in Pathhead took second prize in the group category.
