ADVERTISER readers have chosen their local hero – a Midlothian resident they felt went the extra mile in 2010.

Jackie McNairn (48), of Pathhead, emerged the clear favourite after we asked readers for nominations and then put a final shortlist to the public vote.

The classroom assistant at Tynewater Primary School, who also serves on the village hall committee and is a youth leader at Pathhead Youth Project (PYP) won the hearts of readers who voted her Midlothian’s Local Hero.

Jackie has won a meal for eight people at Dalkeith’s award-winning Itihaas restaurant and was presented with her prize and a framed certificate by Itihaas director Matin Khan and Advertiser editor Jo Robinson.

Full story in this week’s Advertiser (May 26) - plus a chance to nominate your hero to attend historic ceremony at the Scottish Parliament.
