A DALKEITH councillor has joined Midlothian Taxi Owners’ Association in calling for Lugton Brae to be re-opened.

The road was closed to all but local access on August 16 after villagers complained it was being used as a rat run.

However, commuters keen to avoid a diversion route following the closure of the subsidence-hit Old Dalkeith Road, are angry that the access route through Lugton village has been taken away.

Following a meeting with the police last week, Midlothian Council’s director of corporate resources John Blair is expected to take a report to the full council.

It is understood that options for the road include – keeping it closed to all but local access traffic and public transport; opening it up and installing traffic calming measures; re-opening the road to all motorists and introducing a temporary 20mph restriction.
