A Lasswade High School pupil is pressing ahead with plans to set up an internet radio station dedicated to young people.
Black Diamond FM and Crystal FM volunteer Keiran Harvey (15), from Gorebridge, is hoping to raise £1,500 to get his “Youth Radio” dream off the ground.
He said: “Basically it’s an idea I’ve had for quite a while.
“On the station young people will be able to develop their skills and interests and it would also be a soundboard for local youth groups. It wouldn’t be just for Midlothian but all over the world.
“As long as someone has a PC, a microphone and music they can DJ on the station.
“I think there is not enough in the radio industry for young people. There are not many places they can go for experience, like I have at Black Diamond and Crystal.
“And I think young people still listen to the radio, particularly internet radio.
“I have a lot of fundraising to do. Until I get the funding I can’t go forward. I have set up a crowdfunding page and Citizens Advice helped me to set up a bank account.
“It will take a lot of work. I need people to help out and give some time for this. But if we get the word out there then this could take off.”
