Two Midlothian teenagers are jumping for joy after being chosen to compete at the Olympic Stadium in London.
Ellen Kristoffersen, from Dalkeith, and Rachel Robertson, from Gorebridge, will don Scottish Schools vests when they take part in the UK School Games at the new venue in May.
The 15-year-old members of Lasswade Athletics Club fly to London for the games’ opening ceremony on May 9 and expect to compete before a crowd of 35,000.
High jumper Ellen and long jumper Rachel had to win their events at the recent Scottish Schools Championships and, with only one qualifying place available per event, competition was fierce.
They won their respective Over-16 disciplines, beating older S5 and S6 pupils in the process.
Their prize is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete on the Olympic stage with the cream of UK school age athletic talent, against teams representing Northern Ireland, Wales and five English regions.
