A successful partnership between the community and the council led to a new £80,000 skatepark being opened in Newtongrange last week.

The custom built skate park is suitable for various wheeled sports including BMX bikes, rollerblades and skateboards.

David More (16), one of the founder campaigners for the skatepark, said: “I think it’s brilliant and I’m really proud it has happened. It is great really, and all the young folk seem to be impressed.”

Around 300 local people signed a petition in favour of the skatepark, while young people also set-up a Facebook page dedicated to getting such a facility for the village.
