LET’S get this party started!
That was the message which rang around Midlothian last Thursday when the ‘greatest show on earth’ paid a visit.
Thousands of local people lined the streets to welcome and cheer the Olympic flame on the last leg of its eight-day trip around Scotland.
Torchbearers carried the beacon of hope through Dalkeith, Lasswade, Loanhead, Bilston, Milton Bridge and Penicuik on Day 27 of the Olympic Torch Relay.
Lit in Olympia, Greece, on May 10, the flame was transported through Midlothian over two hours, bringing normal activity on its route to a standstill.
Schools and workplaces emptied for its anticipated arrival in Midlothian just before 9am and vantage points on the route were snapped up quickly as local people prepared to take part in a spectacle that continues to thrill a global audience.
Excited children, many wearing Olympic-themed costumes, waved school banners, replica torches and Union flags, cheering every activity on the roadway.
