Forest Enterprise Scotland has appointed Alistair Whyte as the new East Beat Forester for Scottish Lowlands Forest District.

Alistair will look after a number of woodlands, including Lord Ancrum’s Wood at Newbattle and Callendar Wood in Falkirk.

Alistair is responsible for maintaining the woodlands and working with the local community to encourage visitors through a range of events and activities.

Alistair said: “I am really enjoying my new role as a beat forester. My favourite day so far has been getting out and about with the team and seeing the range of forests and projects that are going on. I am looking forward to getting to know the local communities that live in the areas near the woodlands and working with them to create some terrific activities.”

Alistair brings a wealth of knowledge to the role following his previous posts at Scottish Natural Heritage and Wildlife Trust where he was the project coordinator and nature reserves manager.

Alistair continued: “I’ve always been interested in nature and the outdoors; we’re lucky to enjoy such vast amounts of green space in Scotland. I hope I can encourage more people to get outdoors, get active and enjoy the woodlands in their area.”
