Mark McDonald, Minister for Childcare and Early Years has been in Gorebridge to see some of the youngest and oldest members of the community integrating.

He visited the Newbyres Intergenerational project where he saw first hand the innovative work being done by the project between Newbyres Nursery and Newbyres Care Home.

Mr McDonald said: ‘‘I particularly enjoyed taking part in the potted sports and meeting the children, elderly residents and staff, who are all filled with enthusiasm for the project and its potential to be introduced to other areas within Scotland so even more children and adults can benefit.

‘‘It is clear that intergenerational projects are an excellent opportunity not just for children and the elderly but the wider community too.

‘‘I look forward to hearing how the Newbyres project continues to develop, and exploring how we can develop further intergenerational approaches elsewhere in Scotland.”
