Supermarket giant Morrisons is set to move into the former Dalkeith bus depot.
The boost for the town was confirmed by Midlothian Council’s Head of Planning and Development Ian Johnson.
He told a recent meeting of the planning committee that Morrisons and site owner Forrest Developments were finalising a deal.
He added: “Morrisons are preparing to build a supermarket on the former Dalkeith bus station site.
“They hope to submit a planning application to the council in January.”
If approved, the store could be open by 2013 or early 2014.
