Muslim group bid to buy former Bonnyrigg town hall

A Muslim community group has put in an offer to buy the old town hall and library building at Lothian Street, Bonnyrigg.

Council Leader Bob Constable (SNP) told members of Bonnyrigg and Lasswade Community Council: “We have had an offer from a Muslim community group. It’s too premature to say what will happen but an offer has been received.”

The Midlothian Council-owned property had been put on the market at offers over £160,000.

When contacted by the Advertiser, Midlothian Council was unable to clarify whether the group behind this offer was connected to previously-reported plans to open a mosque and Muslim community centre in central Bonnyrigg.
