AN ENGRAVED bronze plaque has been stripped from a Midlothian war memorial.

Mystery surrounds the whereabouts of a metal mounting on the sandstone pillar at Polton Village, although locals suspect it may have been stolen for scrap or removed by vandals.

The disappearance, believed to have occurred within the past month, is being treated as theft and has been reported to the police.
