There was embarrassment at the recent Licensing Board Committee meeting at Midlothian House as the new £19,000 microphone system in the council chambers failed to work.

Members of the public in attendance at the meeting struggled to hear councillors and officials discuss applications without the new system in operation.

Speaking at the meeting, the Licensing Board convenor Councillor Bob Constable (SNP), told those at the meeting: “I have to apologise for this. I’m not very happy about it, as we have just spent a lot of money on it.”

A spokesman for Midlothian Council told the Advertiser that the issue was resolved soon after the meeting and that “there are no ongoing problems with the microphone system”.
