Catering teams across Midlothian are preparing to serve up the new free school meals service for P1s to P3s which starts next month.

The county already has one of the highest take ups of school meals on mainland Scotland.

More than 3,000 pupils will be entitled to the free meals with funding coming from the Scottish Government.

The cost to provide these meals comes to £227,964 in 2014/15 and a further £407,000 over 2015/16.
