As newly-appointed head teacher at Dalkeith High, Borders man Colin Gerrie hopes to raise expectations and improve life choices at the vibrant school now under his stewardship.

Mr Gerrie (42) took up his new post on August 18, in time for the start of the new school year.

He has more than 18 years of experience in the education field, having started work as a teacher in 1993.

He is moving to take up this new role at Dalkeith High from his former post as depute head teacher of Ross High School in Tranent, East Lothian.

Mr Gerrie is no stranger to Midlothian though, having also previously served as depute head teacher at Lasswade High School.
