Airport style check-in kiosks are to be installed at two Lothian hospitals.
As part of a new pilot project, the state-of-the-art machines will be introduced at the Western General Hospital and Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
Their arrival means patients will be able to check-in for their appointments themselves rather than wait to speak to a receptionist.
A patient swipes their finger over a touch screen and inputs their details into the machine to register their atendance. The full process takes around 30 seconds and it is hoped will help improve hospital visits by streamlining the process and providing more privacy.
