Students of Scotland’s adult education college have staged an impressive tribute to one of Newbattle Abbey College’s most famous alumni, Orkney poet George Mackay Brown.

More than 70 people attended the college for the public evening event, which was hosted by Donald Smith, Director of the Scottish International Storytelling Festival, and at which Magnus Linklater, the esteemed former editor of The Scotsman, was among those who made presentations on the life and work of Brown.

The two-hour event, organised entirely by students of Newbattle’s Celtic Studies courses, featured stories, reminiscences, and presentations on Brown, as well as music and canapés from his native Orkney.
