Local MSP Colin Beattie has expressed his concerns over the seven month delay surrounding the building of the new Newbattle High School.
Mr Beattie, MSP for Midlothian North and Musselburgh, took the opportunity, as a member of the Scottish Parliament’s Public Audit Committee to rigorously question Scottish Government officials for answers on the delays to the project.
The delays have been entirely due to new EU accounting requirements which are currently with the UK’s Office of National Statistics (ONS) awaiting their adjudication on which contracts will be impacted and what contract or other changes need to be put in place.
Mr Beattie said: “Frankly seven months is far too long a delay to a project of this magnitude. We are still no further forward with the new School which was supposed to start construction in March 2015 and are facing possibly months more in delays before this situation is resolved.”
Plans for new schools at both Roslin and Paradykes are also affected by the same EU accounting issue.
