Concern has been raised over the financial implications of the decision to build a community hub at Newbattle High while keeping local facilities.
Councillor Jim Muirhead (Lab) told last week’s Gorebridge Community Council meeting that he believed the decision to keep the eight under-threat buildings open, while building a community hub at the replacement Newbattle High School, would have a serious knock-on effect, with council officers previously predicting a £2.8 million funding gap each year.
He said: “I really don’t know where this is going to leave Midlothian, and in particular this community.”
When asked to comment, Council leader Bob Constable (SNP) said: “Our response is that all this is covered in the minutes of the June council meeting.”
