More than 100 local school pupils recently took part in a special ‘Big Music Day’ concert at Newbattle High School building on local links.

Nicola Maynes, principal teacher, curriculum music and drama faculty at Newbattle High revealed more about ‘Big Music Day’ and how it came about.

She said: “Last year we decided to build on our links with our primary schools in the music department.

“We invited every P6 and P7 who plays a wind or brass instrument in our cluster to come to the high school for a day of music making with our instructors, teachers and senior pupils,

“We’ve called it Big Music Day.

“This year, 96 pupils came along to rehearse with us and our pupils and then put on a concert in the afternoon for parents and friends.

“In total there were over 130 pupils involved in the concert playing music as diverse as ‘the Pink Panther’, ‘The Great Gate of Kiev’ and ‘We Will Rock You’.

“The concert was a huge success for primary and secondary pupils alike.”

Newbattle High is set to be rebuilt with community facilities as ‘Newbattle Centre’.
