Newbattle youngsters help charity

Young people from the Newbattle Youth Forum recently raised money for a charity very close to their hearts.'The youngsters from Mayfield, Easthouses and Newtongrange organised a successful Ceilidh and raised �500 for the Lothian Autistic Society.

Young people from the Newbattle Youth Forum recently raised money for a charity very close to their hearts.

The youngsters from Mayfield, Easthouses and Newtongrange organised a successful ceilidh and raised £500 for the Lothian Autistic Society.

The local charity is important to the group as some members from the youth forum are affected by autism.

Karen Watson from the Newbattle Youth Forum, said: “The night was a great success. We were able to raise money for a worthwhile charity and organise an event for the community which brought people together, especially from across the generations.”

Kristin Armour, Projects Coordinator for Lothian Autistic Society added: “We are overwhelmed by the support shown from the young people of Newbattle Youth Forum and we cannot thank them enough. This wonderful donation will be used in our activity projects for the children and young people throughout the upcoming year.”

Councillor Lisa Beattie, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “These young people have been such a great inspiration to the whole community and the ceilidh was a lot of fun for everyone. The Lothian Autistic Society does a lot of fantastic work within the Lothian region and its’ heart-warming to hear that Newbattle Youth Forum raised money for a charity which is so close to them personally. I would like to congratulate and thank the forum for all their hard work in organising this wonderful event they are an inspiration to all of us.”
