Newtongrange author Simon Puttock has been shortlisted in the Bookbug readers category (3-7 yrs) of the Scottish Children’s Book Awards for his picture book Mouse’s First Night at Moonlight School.

The nine shortlisted authors and illustrators receive £500 per book, and the three winning books receive £3,000 each when the winners are announced in March 2016.

Simon is no stranger to the Scottish Children’s Book Awards, having won a 2006 Award for Little Lost Cowboy, and appearing on both the 2008 and 2010 shortlists.

He has written over 30 children’s books, with the most recent - Owl Wants To Share At Moonlight School- published in July.

Commenting on his nomination, Simon said: “I was so delighted to hear that I had been nominated for this award, that I sat down and composed a nocturne for Moonlight School (called The Night Bell) in celebration.”
