A new community officer is settling into her beat in Newtongrange, learning from the man who held the role for 17 years.
Since starting last week Emma Smith (25) has been shown the ropes by her predecessor Blair Watson, who retires later this year.
She said: “Blair has been taking me round the place and introducing me to people.
“Obviously taking over from him leaves me a lot to live up to, but it’s great to have someone to pass on that local knowledge to me.
“And I will still have plenty of time to bend his ear before he retires.”
Emma was born in London, but has lived in Edinburgh since she was 12.
Her first role with the police was as a beat officer in Musselburgh, and has since been part of the community action team covering Midlothian, and a response cop in Newbattle.
