Newtongrange Star had no luck at all against Camelon when everything that could go wrong did as they crashed to a 4-1 defeat on Saturday.
Despite a bright opening period for the visitors, on 27 minutes Kelly curled the ball over the defensive wall which saw keeper Renton tip the ball on to the post but he could do nothing as it bounced off his back and into the net.
It got worse for the Star after 32 minutes when Stevie Noble tried to shepherd a ball out for a throw in but lost possession with the ball then swung into the penalty box where David Grant was on hand to dispatch the ball past Renton to make it 2-0 .
Coultress had a decent effort well saved after 38 minutes before Star’s luck went from bad to worse as an attempted clearance from Thomson was sliced and ended up curling over Renton and into the top corner.
The first half ended in further agony when a slack pass in midfield was picked up by Benton who strode forward and trundled the ball into the bottom corner of the Star net leaving the visitors 4-0 down at half time.
Newtongrange came out for the second half with the bit between their teeth and pulled one back after two minutes. A terrific cross field pass by Thomson was brilliantly brought down by Motion. His slide rule pass released Wilson who knocked the ball past the home keeper with Coultress before knocking it home.
Wilson went close and Thomson nearly scored a free kicks, before Wilson had the ball in the net after 61 minutes but it was ruled offside.
Another Thomson free kick was held at the second attempt by Kane before McManus saw his goal-bound header deflected behind after 77 minutes.
