Newtongrange Primary’s junior road safety officers opened the school doors for their first safety event recently.

Visiting safety stands came from British Transport Police, who were there to highlight the dangers ahead of the Borders Railway opening, and the Scottish Fire Service who brought along a fire engine for the children to explore.

Janine Kettrick, treasurer of Newtongrange Primary Parent Council, said: “The junior road safety officers, all pupils at the school, helped visiting services with their stands and also had their own stands promoting their Park Smart campaign.”

The British Red Cross Society, Active Schools, and the Borders Search and Rescue team also visited the event, which was funded by Network Rail, and initiated by Newtongrange Primary School Parent Council.
