An offer to site the Olympic rings at Hillend has been rejected by the Games organisers.
However, Midlothian Council is now considering erecting an alternative installation at the Midlothian Snowsports Centre.
Minister for Sport and the Olympics Hugh Robertson MP has written to Midlothian Provost Adam Montgomery, who originally raised the idea of using the ski centre location as the perfect vantage point for the Olympic rings.
In his letter, Mr Robertson passed on his thanks for the Provost’s support for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
