Housebuilder Grange Estates is helping to sponsor the 10th Bonnyrigg Duck Race.
The firm has funded two banners for the race, which takes place every year at Pittendreich Burn and raises thousands for charity.
This year’s event is scheduled to take place on January 29, and will be launched by triple Olympian rower Sarah Winckless, who is also chair of the new British Olympic Association Athletes Commission.
Funds from the event will be donated to Children First and the Edinburgh and Lothians Family Support Group for the Scottish Huntington’s Association, a charity which is close to Ms Winckless’ heart as she carries the mutant gene for the disease.
An incurable hereditary disease, Huntington’s is characterised by involuntary movements and dementia which affects about 6,000 people in the UK. Sarah’s mother is in a wheelchair as a result of the disease, although the rower herself has yet to show any symptoms.
Race organiser Bill MacDonald, said he was delighted with the generous donation: “This year is going to be very special as it is Olympic Year and we will have an Olympian to start the race and give out the prizes. We are very pleased companies like Grange Estates have got behind the event.”
