Local police have issued parking tickets to motorists illegally using the disabled parking bays at the Lasswade Centre in Bonnyrigg.

Last Wednesday evening, officers dished out nine fixed penalty notices as matters came to a head.

The crackdown, involving Midlothian Council and Police Scotland, follows vain attempts to appeal to motorists’ better nature.

Councillor Derek Rosie, the cabinet member for sport and leisure at Midlothian Council, urged drivers to park considerately.

He said: “I know we are all busy people, rushing to pick up family or get to the gym. However, there’s ample parking at Lasswade and it only takes a minute or so more to park in the correct bays.”
