Lasswade resident Rhoda Gourlay has received national recognition for her fundraising.

As well as being named Barchester Charitable Foundation’s Champion of 2016, Miss Gourlay has been congratulated by Miles Briggs MSP. Miss Gourlay, who lives in the Drummond Grange Care Home, has cerebral palsy and is blind.

Earlier this year she used a exercise bike to cycle 412 miles – the distance between Edinburgh and Buckingham Palace – to raise money for the foundation.

Raising a motion in the Scottish Parliament, Mr Briggs said: “Despite Rhoda’s very severe physical disabilities, she was determined to undertake a challenge to raise much-needed funds for the Barchester Charitable Foundation.

“Rhoda’s example is an inspiration to all of us and I hope will encourage many others, both able bodied and less able bodied to consider raising funds for charity.”
